ABOUT RABBI
Not Your Typical Rabbi.
A guest lecturer at Harvard, a classically trained opera singer, a beekeeper, and a spiritual guide who has worked with CEOs of major international companies on communications strategy, counseled countless people in distress, and met with heads of state.
Rabbi Ron Li-Paz has spent nearly three decades asking the same question in an extraordinary range of rooms: what makes a life truly meaningful? The answers he has gathered from heads of state and countless pastoral encounters, from opera stages and hospital
bedsides, from Vatican audiences and military service have shaped one of the most genuinely distinctive voices in American religious and public life.
His path to the rabbinate was anything but direct. He served in the United States Air Force before earning a degree at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, one of the world's most rigorous performance conservatories. He went on to work in theater, television, and broadcasting for the BBC World Service, then built a management consulting practice with Capgemini Sogeti, developing and implementing communications strategies for multinational clients across Europe. He was ordained as a rabbi through the Academy for Jewish Religion, California. Since 1996, he has served as the Spiritual Leader of Valley Outreach Synagogue, Center for Jewish Life in Calabasas, California, a 1,300-person community where he has built a home grounded in learning, service, and radical welcome.
His intellectual and professional life has continued to expand alongside his pastoral one. He has guest-taught at Harvard University for two consecutive years in the "Music & the Mind" course led by Dr. J. Patrick Whelan. He worked with healthcare executive audiences at the UCLA Anderson School of Business and the UCLA-Johnson & Johnson Management Development
Institute in East Africa is a regular expert guest on KABC and KRLA radio, and works with business and community leaders on leadership, communication, and change management.
Not Your Typical Mind.
For a decade, Rabbi Li-Paz pursued a parallel life on stage: a leading guest artist in opera and concerts across the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States, performing major roles in major theaters. In 2011, he was invited to sing as a soloist before President Obama, members of Congress, and an audience of more than ten thousand people.
As a board member of the Center for Interreligious Understanding, Rabbi Li-Paz has represented the organization around the world, engaging faith and political leaders in peace-oriented dialogue. He served on the U.S. delegation to the United Nations International Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku, Azerbaijan, and has worked with the UN in Fez, Morocco, and at its headquarters in New York. He delivered the keynote address at an international interreligious conference at the Catholic University of America in Washington. He was an honored guest of Pope Francis at the Vatican and of His All Holiness the Patriarch Bartholomew in Istanbul, and most recently met with Pope Leo XIV on the subject of interreligious collaboration.
Rabbi Li-Paz is the host of the Meaning Mindset Podcast and the author of SEE: The Moral Power of Perception, forthcoming.
